Cross-Border Careers: Learning edit basics for virtual work flows

Nigel Honey, CEO of the Ability Post Production Academy for remote and on-site training, gave a workshop for those wishing to learn editing basics for virtual or on-site work flows, looking at industry-standard software Avid, Adobe Premiere and DaVinci.

Nigel has over 25 years’ editing experience as a freelance TV / film editor with Avid Media Composer 2018 (legacy) /2019/ (2022.7.0 latest stable Vsn) DaVinci Resolve 17, and Premiere Pro CC2018/19/20/21/22. He continues to edit alongside teaching for STV, BBC, RDF, Channel 4, Channel 5 and Sky.

The Ability Academy motto is Taking the ‘Dis’ out of Disability as, despite being told he’d never be a film editor with bipolar disorder, Nigel went on to edit feature films which were screened at Cannes, Edinburgh International and Raindance Film Festivals.

Nigel runs the UK’s first online, affordable, inclusive and accessible film editing academy, Ability Academy, inspired by his own invisible disability and his desire for more inclusion in TV and film post production. Teaching courses both online and in the classroom to Avid, All Spring Media BBC Accelerator Programme, BBC Natural History Unit, Grierson Trust, IMG, ITV Scripted – Coronation Street / Emmerdale, ITV Unscripted, Mama Youth, Netflix, NFTS, Northern Film School, The Pipeline, Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, Screen Skills, Skills 2 Film, Volant Media, Volda University College, Norway, and XJTLU Uni China. Nigel is an AVID Media Composer Avid Certified Instructor in 2018/2019/2022.7.0 and Resolve 17 Certified trainer in Scotland able to deliver the certified AVID 101 and 110 courses both classroom and online from Nov 2020 as an Official Avid Learning Partner
