We are used to film & TV being considered a visual art form, but the audience experience is equally about sound, from dialogue, to the imaginative aural landscapes that characters inhabit. How can screenwriters include sound notes or directions to set mood and tone? Would it be helpful to include more comprehensive sound ideas at script stage, alongside imagery ideas?
What are the effective approaches to conveying early sound ideas to the production and post-production teams, to act as inspiration for the final film? How can the screenwriter, director and sound department best collaborate in this process, to enhance the emotional impact of the story through sound?
The speakers are drawn from the ScreenCraft Works mentoring community:
Mariana Vily – writer & actor (Argentina, USA)
Chantelle Donovan – audio assistant (UK)
Nathaly Gonzalez – sound designer (Venezuela, Ireland)
Lada Kopytova – writer & director (Ukraine, UK)
Claudia Mattai del Moro – production sound mixer (Switzerland, Germany)
